A TEACHER. A STATEMENT.
THE HOMESCHOOLING SEED PLANTED.
Yep. Three words that we hear kids say often. Unfortunately, this statement came from my child's teacher. It was the final problem that actually had me google "homeschool".
My child came home with a Kindergarten level book to read for the week. I didn't think much about it. I thought he picked it. But, then it happened again. Now let me say, at the time, MY CHILD WAS IN THE 3rd GRADE!!! My child's state testing DONE IN SCHOOL...showed his skill set was WAY ABOVE 3rd grade level...he OUTSCORED his entire 3rd grade within the school, and most of the 3rd grade within the District! When I brought this up... this was the response from the teacher...
"IT'S NOT FAIR TO THE OTHER STUDENTS IN CLASS IF YOUR CHILD'S WORK OR READING BOOKS ARE HARDER OR AT A HIGHER LEVEL THAN THEIRS".
I was being told that my child was not going to be challenged. I was also being told my child was not going to get moved up.
I already know that many kids that are not challenged within a school system, slowly begin to "act up/ mis-behave"as a result of boredom and a lack of a challenge with schoolwork/tests. Were they purposely attempting to get my child to head into that direction?
I will never truly know; I was not going to keep him there to find out.
And so a new road, of uncertainty was now in front of us....The Journey of Homeschooling began....
