I recall a time my kids were with me in a store. They were weighing various fruits and vegetables, making comparisons, and estimating costs. Some lovely citizen decided to walk past four scales, not being used, and pick the scale my kids were "playing" on.
She then decided she should do her civic duty to inform me of their "antics and playing" with things other people need to use. Remember, she walked past four scales, about 15 feet away, and across 1 isle..in order to "use" the one we were on!!!
I stated to her, "To YOU it may be playing. I see kids learning, and if YOU don't like it...you could always use one of the 4 scales YOU decided to pass in order to come over to this one!"
Her look was one of shock. She turned and walked away, mumbling to herself, without grabbing any produce, or using ANY scales! Was she embarrassed? Maybe. But, sadly, it shows her main intent was to be confrontational. She passed judgment without any idea about what was going on, and she turned out to be incorrect. Sad, really.
They asked me what was wrong with her. I just informed them that our way of learning did not match up to her idea of what learning should look like, so she had a problem with it. They said okay.....and proceeded with their math lessons, and I looked on, with pride, and quietly said to myself: "Homeschool Rocks".
